I’m super proud of my Moon Cacao product and put a lot of time into perfecting the flavour balance. But apart from its taste, each ingredient was chosen specifically for its healing properties and how it can help with common issues & symptoms I see in women.
A key time of life when a woman really needs a good deal of support is in the early days of motherhood – the fourth trimester (otherwise known as post partum) and beyond.
Magnesium and iron are rich in the cacao bean, and are two very important nutrients post partum. Magnesium has a calming effect, helping with relaxing the muscles as well as the mind, aiding sleep and recovery, and supporting the ability to metabolise & make energy, as the demands on a new mother’s body are immense.
Iron is often depleted after the birthing process, and is critical for mental health, thyroid function, energy & oxygen delivery to the entire body.
The blend also includes 5 key herbs –
Shatavari – an Ayurvedic herb for supporting stress, hormone regulation and digestive function
Rose – emotionally balancing, soothing and calming
Ginger – anti inflammatory, warming to the gut and for digestive support
Cardamom & black pepper – vital warming for the post partum period to help relieve bloating, aid bowel emptying and improving nutrient assimilation from foods.
In traditional Chinese medicine – pregnancy is seen as a ‘hot’ condition, and post birth the body shifts to a state of ‘cold’. It is essential to put heat in so the body can recover fully. Particularly in the case of a C-section where the abdomen has been exposed to the outside environment, and the cold air of the operating theatre has ‘invaded’ the belly.
During each post partum home visit, I gift the new mama with a flask of Moon cacao, and a packet to continue drinking as a daily tonic. I’m so happy to have received such wonderful feedback on its taste and how it has been of benefit.
Moon Cacao should be avoided through pregnancy until the final few weeks, due to the Shatavari content, but is great any other time. Click here if you would like to learn more.
